The Only Two Things You Need To Accomplish Any Goal.

THE ONLY TWO THINGS YOU NEED TO ACCOMPLISH ANY GOAL.

What’s your reaction to this sentence?

👉Accomplishing goals is easy.

If this was your reaction...

... what I’m going to say next will surprise you.

Accomplishing your goals is much easier than you may think.

In fact:

There are only TWO things you need to accomplish any goal.

Do you want to know what they are?

I thought so 😉

Here they are:

THING #1: YOU NEED A PLAN

Google Maps only needs two things to help you get pretty much anywhere in the world:

  • Where are you now?
  • Where are you going?

Your goals are the exact same.

First, you need to determine where you are. I recommend using the “Wheel of Life” exercise that I talk about in this article.

In short, the Wheel Of Life has you assess where you are in life in 8 different categories:

  1. Health
  2. Career
  3. Personal Growth
  4. Financial
  5. Significant Other
  6. Spiritual
  7. Fun and Adventure

Once you determine where you are, you can then chart out where you want to go...

Aka your “destination” if it were Google Maps.

For this, I recommend creating a Vivid Vision.

A Vivid Vision is simply an incredibly detailed 3D world of what you want your life to look like 3 years from now that you can step into and explore.

You can see the one I created for October 2021 for myself right here.

If you did those two steps, you...

  • Know where you are
  • Determined where you want to go

So how do you get from A → B?

This is where the plan comes in.

Now it’s up to you to figure out what needs to happen from A to get you to B.

Here are my tips on that:

  1. You can’t eat an elephant at once. List out all of the projects that need to be completed to get you to B.
  2. Determine the optimal order in which to complete those projects. Which projects help drive the completion of other projects?
  3. Choose 3-4 projects to complete every 12 weeks
  4. Use the 12 Week Year Process to accomplish those 3-4 projects
  5. Repeat

THING #2: YOU NEED TO EXECUTE

Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
- Mike Tyson

Once you’ve charted out your plan...

... execute.

DIDN’T ACCOMPLISH YOUR GOAL? ONE OF THESE TWO THINGS HAPPENED.

If you don’t accomplish your goal, one of two things happened:

  1. Your plan sucked
  2. Your execution sucked

End of story.

This is why I recommend breaking things up into small chunks — 12 weeks to accomplish 3-4 big goals.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say your goal is to book 25 meetings by the end of the month for accomplishing a sales goal.

To book one meeting, you know you have to send 10 emails.

So in week 1, you send 10 emails.

If a week later you kept sending emails and didn’t book any meetings, this should be your thought process:

  1. I established a plan
  2. I executed on the plan exactly like I said I would
  3. I didn’t get the results I wanted
  4. Therefore, my plan sucked

Now let’s look at it the other way around.

In week 1, you didn’t send 10 emails.

You didn’t book any meetings.

This should be your thought process:

  1. I established a plan
  2. I didn’t execute on the plan like I said I would
  3. I didn’t get the results I wanted
  4. Therefore, my execution sucked

Any goal can be broken down this way.

The only way you don’t accomplish a goal is if...

  1. Your plan sucked
  2. Your execution sucked

End of story.

CONCLUSION

There you have it.

Now you have the ONLY two things you need to accomplish any goal.

Use them to go kick ass.
